COVID-19 is dead, long live COVID-19 Delta

COVID-19 (specifically the delta variant) cases are on the rise again. Face masks are coming back, but with something new: Actual usage of the COVID-19 vaccination record card (also known as the COVID-19 vaccine passport elsewhere). This record, for anyone who doesn’t know, already has a digital copy (link to an article of it on GS Chronicle) of it just waiting to be claimed on California’s Digital COVID-19 Vaccine Record website.

Regardless of how you hold your copy, the vaccination record card will be the key to entering facilities or holding a job (and frankly, will immediately differentiate you from Trumpites). Jerry Dyer of Fresno has recently required that unvaccinated employees working for the city of Fresno be tested often, a nuisance that may easily be avoided by getting the damn vaccine.

Regardless of how we encourage people to get vaccinated, California only has 63.2% of its population fully vaccinated. This is short from the proposed minimum threshold of 70% for herd immunity. 90% is the higher end of achieving herd immunity, considering just how contagious COVID-19 is.
