Fresno Yosemite International Airport, or known just as The Fresno Airport Terminal (FAT), has an ongoing project, “FATForward,” which aims to expand the terminal, which includes more gates, a bigger checkpoint, more places to eat, as well as construction of a parking garage. Construction already began in 2021 (though I never noticed anything going on), with the newly constructed facilities expected to be operation this fall.
The expansion program which costs around $100 million is funded by Airport revenue sources (which received an additional $2 million from a bill congress passed) rather than from Fresno’s general tax. The project is anticipated to generate 1,220 direct, induced and indirect jobs and $182 million in economic activity. Since the Great Recession the Airport has experienced 45 percent growth in passenger traffic and each year continues to outpace prior years.
