Legends is calling it quits for good and the building is for sale

I was out and about running errands this week and this “for sale” sign caught my eye. I admit I was a little sad because our night life in Fresno has really gone down hill over the last 5 to 10 years. After having a few private conversations I was able to confirm that LGBTQ dance club and bar Legends has closed its doors for good and will not be reopening. From what I hear, when bars had to close for the second time last month Jeff decided not to reopen and put the building up for sale.

Apparently the club had been struggling prior to the sheltering-in-place order that came down in March. This actually rings true to me because Ronan and I went to Legends for Valentine’s Day on February 14th. We were really excited to go because it fell on a Friday so we made plans to get there early so we wouldn’t have to fight the crush of the crowd and a long line. By midnight, there was barely 20 or 25 people in the whole joint…including the patio! Valentine’s Day? On a Friday night no less!? I was completely shocked and more than a little peeved. Do you know how bad you have to be failing the community and your customers when you have a city and county of a million people and you can’t draw a crowd on a Friday or Saturday night? Well…enough said.

I’m sure the folks over at the new Splash video dance bar (in the old Landmark building) are popping bottles of Champaign and grinning from ear to ear. 🙂

  1. There couldn’t have been a better sign from the heavens above that it is time for Fresno to have a real club, at least until this pandemic is over.

  2. How sad. Oh well. We’ll see if Splash actually ever opens and if they do any better.

  3. I’ve been over Legends for a long time. Probably haven’t been there in two years.
