You read that right, the event has been cancelled (just physically), not postponed. Instead, there is a virtual pride being planned, (and an even grander celebration for 2021). Until then, no one can expect any normalcy, even by June. Thanks to the Trump Administration fully blundering the corona virus response, it would be a serious matter of health concern to have millions of people gather together, even months from now. Even more so, scientists are learning more about the virus, and it’s even more scary. Despite the in person pride being canceled, rainbow flags are still expected to be flown down Market street in June. SF Pride has yet to date their virtual pride events.
“Here’s some good news: SF Pride is happy to announce our full slate of Community Grand Marshals and Awardees for 2020!”But wait,” you may be wondering. “Didn’t y’all literally just cancel Pride 50 altogether?”The answer is NO! Because of COVID-19, we have chosen not to go ahead with a physical Parade and Celebration in late June, but we are forging ahead with a full program of online events for Pride Month and beyond — and we’re excited to work with this year’s Community Grand Marshals to make it all happen”…From this Facebook post.
