Urgent support needed in Kingsburg, California tommorrow

It looks as though a fight is brewing in Kingsburg, California over an LGBTQ+ pride month resolution that will go before the city council. The pride proposal has caught the attention of the Fresno County Republican Party and its chairperson. This is hot off the press from Fresno Stonewall Democrats…

Kingsburg City Council Woman and Fresno Stonewall member, Jewel Hurtado needs our support! Republicans are organizing to defeat her Pride proposal. LGBTQ voices need to be heard, even in Kingsburg, because we are everywhere! Please get the word out!

Marsha Conant, Fresno Stonewall President

It seems as though the anti-gay (Republican) party chairperson, Frank Zanderhoof, has tomorrow’s city council meeting in his target scope. Check out the statement he sent out today regarding the local pride proposal…

To all Conservatives:

•There is an urgent need to attend a Kingsburg City Council meeting tomorrow, Wed, May 19th (1401 Draper St. Kingsburg, CA 93631)

•LGBTQ activists (many from out of town) are planning to ask the Kingsburg City Council to establish one full month to honor the LGBTQ community, including a parade and flags on City Hall

•In these types of meetings it is common for a City Council to be pressured into voting for the requests/demands of the group that has the greatest number of people attending.

•Speakers are needed, however, even if you don’t speak your presence is very important.

•The meeting begins at 6 PM, but it’s a good idea to arrive around 5 PM.

You’re welcome to spread the word!

Thank you,

Fred Vanderhoof, Fresno County Republican Party Chairman

Urge supervisors to appoint James Kus tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb 23rd)

This is hot off the press! Apparently Brandi Orth is resigning from her post at the Fresno County Clerk and Registrar. This recommendation comes from our local chapter of Fresno Stonewall Democrats:

Please email and/or call the 5 Fresno County supervisors to urge them to appoint James Kus to replace Brandi Orth, who is resigning as County Clerk/Registrar. The position is an elected one, but because she is resigning before her current term expires, a replacement must be appointed until the next election. The Board of Supervisors is responsible for the appointment. The appointment will be made in a closed session next Tuesday, Feb 23.

There has been talk that the right-wing members of the Board want to appoint a right-wing partisan named Mark Johnson to the position.

Please write and call all of the supervisors and urge them to appoint James Kus, the current Assistant Clerk/Registrar, who is recommended by Orth herself. He has the expertise and experience to administer elections fairly, and he is non-partisan.

Send an email to: [email protected] and note the meeting date and agenda item number along with your comments:

• Board Meeting Date FEB 23 2021
• Item Number AGENDA ITEM #17
• Comments

The meeting starts at 9am on Tuesday Feb 23, and in-person public comments are scheduled for 11am. It is said that the supervisors refuse to wear masks, so appear in person at your own risk. It is also said that they ignore written comments, but if they are deluged with them, they are likely to take notice.

Please join us at our first meeting of the year THIS Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at 5:30 PM. As most of your know or have read, our community lost a very special friend and fellow activist, Zoyer Zyndel, on December 26, 2020. Zoyer was an inspirational person and a driving force among several organizations in and around Fresno. Beverly Senkowski will speak to us about him and his involvement in our community.

California Democratic Party elections are in April and we are honored to have the following candidates as our speakers this month:
Betty Yee, Ca State Controller & Candidate for Vice President
